The Opportunity
The role will be responsible for hand-welding, magnetic drill, handheld grinder, flame-cutting, plasma torch to weld or join metal components or to fill holes, indentations, or seams of fabricated metal products.
The Team
Reporting directly into the Operations Supervisor, this role is a part of the Operations team working collaboratively to achieve the set targets.
Responsibilities
- Follow company safety rules in accordance with OSHA regulations such as: Wearing PPE, safety shoes, safety glasses, PAPR welding helmets with filter blower motors, face shield, ear plugs, gloves, and other required PPE to prevent burns and eye injuries.
- Plan work from drawings or specifications or use their knowledge of fluxes and base metals to analyze the parts to be joined.
- Select and set up welding equipment, execute the planned welds, and examine welds to ensure that they meet standards or specifications.
- Examine weld during the welding process; observe problems with the weld and adjust the speed, voltage, amperage, or feed of the wire or rod.
- In automated welding, follow specified layouts, work orders, or blueprints; load parts correctly and constantly monitor the machine to ensure that it produces the desired bond.
- Operate and monitor cutting machines similar to those used by welding machine operators.
- Work indoors, sometimes in a confined area designed to contain sparks and glare.
- Lift heavy objects and work in a variety of awkward positions, while bending, stooping, or standing to perform work overhead.
- Operate cranes, side lifts, forklifts, and electric lifts.
- Perform daily and periodical maintenance on equipment used in department.
- Act professionally as a team player at all times.
- Cross train as directed and be willing to work at any production or shipping position in the plant.
- Provide accurate time allocations by job number on all work completed.
- Responsible for keeping weld cell organized and clean with a strong emphasis on 5-S.
- Perform quality inspections to ensure part accuracy per the blueprints.
- Follow the buddy check system and document.
- Must currently be certified or be able to attain the appropriate weld certification within 15 days of employment.
- Provide accurate time allocations by job number on all work completed.
- Perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED): Required.
- 6+ months of experience.
- Must be able to read and interpret shop plans and specifications.
- Must be able to use a square and read the tape measure to within 1/16th inch tolerance.
- Must be able to lift and transport up to 70 pounds on occasion and be able to learn to operate forklifts.
- Excellent attendance and punctuality required.
